What to Bring on a Caving Trip To Mt Silabur

So you want to go on one of our Silabur caving trips? Great! Here's what you need:

Equipment and Supplies

Two working flashlights or headlamps of your own (that is, two spares in addition to the light on your helmet.)
batteries for your main light and your backup lights, plus one set of spare batteries

At least one liter of water
snack food. Food that can be eaten without leaving crumbs around is preferable.

Trash bag or plastic bin to transport your muddy cave clothes home
a pocket knife (preferably lock-blade) if you have one, just because pocket knives are hard-core
two working flashlights or headlamps of your own.

Equipment and Supplies Provided by the Caving Club

caving helmet
electric headlamp
optional: carbide headlamp
conveniently shaped caving backpack
webbing in case we need it as a handline, or for emergencies
mylar emergency blanket;
for vertical trips: frog ascending system
Cave Clothing

long underwear, preferably polypropylene or something else that isn't cotton
shirt & pants, preferably wool or synthetic
wool or synthetic sweater
socks, preferably 1 pair of polypropylene or other synthetic fiber

caving shoes, preferably old hiking boots, preferably without hooks for the laces

gloves: optional. can get in the way but can keep your hands warm and cut-free
knee pads: optional, can get in the way but can make you more comfortable)

Non-Cave Clothing

towel
change of clothes for afterward
dry pair of shoes or sandals

Persatuan Pengusaha Sarang Burung Walit Gua Silabur

Kali terakhir penuaian sarang burung walit adalah pada bulan Mac 2011. Jumlah kutipan pada masa itu adalah lebih kurang 50 kg.

Kutipan semakin berkurangan tahun demi tahun dan ini telah menjejaskan ekonomi penduduk kampung yang terbabit. Oleh yang demikian, persatuan pengusaha sarang burung walit gua silabur telah ditubuhkan

Tour To Silabur Cave

Silabur Cave is synonym to Kampung Lobang Batu and one of Borneo’s greatest attractions. Silabur Cave is accessible by jungle trekking which take about 1 hour from the Kpg Batu Mawang village . It take another 1 hour of climbing to the entrance which situated at the middle of the Mt Silabur. At around 6 to 7.30 am and 5.00 to 6.30 pm each day, thousand of swiftlets blacken the sky as they entering Silabur Cave multiple small entrance at the top, side & middle of Mt Silabur.

How To Go There

From Serian roundabout, you follow the road to Tebedu at KM12 reach junction to Tebakang/Mongkos Road. You will get to a junction just after Tebekang bazaar the small shop. SMK Tebakang Turn left and after KM 16 km there is SK Lobang Batu and opposite turn right entering small kampung road leading to Kpg Batu Lin/Batu Mawang about 1.5 km inside.

The entrance fee to Silabur is RM10 per person paid to the Silabur Association at the Coop Tukar shop.

The Silabur Cave is manage by the Silabur Birdnest Operator Association.

SILABUR CAVE

Edible-nest swiftlet, Aerodramus maximus , is the only edible nest swiftlet found in Silabur cave.

They usually fill the airspace above Southeast Asia, feeding on insects that flying in the air. The only time for them to landed is on their nests. This swiftlets feeds over open country, scrub, coastal plains, developed areas as well as over the forest. Here, in Silabur area, they nest inside the dark cave systems.
